Neonicotinoid insecticides are the most widely used in the world and bees, butterflies, birds, and ecosystems can’t handle more poison. The EPA’s own analyses found significant harm to endangered species and now they’re seeking public input on whether to allow continued use of these neurotoxins. We need to ramp up the pressure and urge them to take action! Due to risks to pollinators, water, and soil -- the EU put a moratorium on neonics in 2013. It’s time for the U.S. to get with the program and end the use of these dangerous insecticides already.
The three neonics up for consideration are imidacloprid, clothianidin, and thiamethoxam and peer-reviewed studies show they harm native bees, honey bees, birds, butterflies, and other insects -- in addition to negatively affecting water and soil health. These three toxic neonics may affect upwards of 86% of all endangered species and are likely to adversely affect 67-79% of all endangered species!
Of the 791 protected species with designated critical habitats, imidacloprid, clothianidin, and thiamethoxam harm 53-88% of those species. It is worth putting in significant effort to stop significant harm. We have until October 25, 2021, to ensure the EPA gets the message and understands we will never let up on fighting neonics.
Please join us and sign now to tell the EPA enough already with these dangerous neonics that are known to cause serious harm, prioritize endangered species and our environment, now! If you have time, add a few sentences to make it your own. After you sign, please ask like-minded friends and family to do the same. It takes a village!
