Glyphosate herbicide must be banned for the sake of human health and the environment. The EPA must stop colluding with Bayer-Monsanto and protecting corporate profits over the health of Americans. There are over 1,000 peer-reviewed studies linking glyphosate and Roundup to various health and environmental harms. The IARC classified glyphosate as a probable human carcinogen in 2015. Studies also link glyphosate to cancer, infertility in women and men, premature birth, rheumatoid arthritis, depression, polycystic ovarian syndrome, celiac disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, kidney damage, leaky gut, microbiome disruption, autism spectrum disorder, Alzheimer’s disease, and a myriad of other health harms. And EPA’s own 2020 draft biological evaluation stated that glyphosate is likely to adversely affect 93% of threatened and endangered species, which the agency conveniently ignored when it reached its interim decision on glyphosate. Even the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the EPA’s determination that glyphosate likely poses no “unreasonable risk” to the environment or human health. The three-judge appellate panel found the EPA discounted epidemiological studies showing a link between glyphosate exposure and an increased risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which defied the EPA’s own Cancer Guidelines, and also found fault with the EPA’s selective use of historical-control data regarding tumors in animals. EPA’s collusion with the chemical industry and the corruption occurring within the Office of Pesticide Programs must stop. Ban glyphosate today.
